The launch event for the new community garden at Frank Banfield Park was held Friday 27th September. We were honoured to have Hammersmith & Fulham’s Deputy Mayor Daryl Brown cut the ribbon to celebrate its opening and a few words from Friends of Frank Banfield Park too.
The attendees enjoyed looking around the garden, which has some great vegetables and herbs growing in the raised beds. The is also a pond which is establishing well and is already attracting a lot of wildlife, including dragonflies.
We had some activities in the tiny forest from Earth Watch, nature craft from Urbanwise in the wider garden, as well as families enjoying having a go on our smoothie bike and planting daffodil bulbs to take home.
The event was wrapped up with a bat walk from LBHF’s ecology lead, which found common and soprano pipistrelles feeding in the garden.
The community garden is now open for volunteering sessions every Thursday morning 9:30am-noon, as well as family volunteering every first Saturday of the month 9:30am-1pm. Get in touch at volunteering@hcga.org.uk to get involved!
