Through all our education programmes, we aim to build environmental awareness, confidence and practical skills, empowering people to take positive action for nature and climate. We believe that connecting people with the natural world helps create a sense of hope, responsibility and possibility for the future.

HCGA has been delivering environmental education for over 30 years. Our team of school gardeners delivers weekly environmental education sessions in schools, including curriculum-linked activities, lunchtime and after-school clubs.Through hands-on learning, we explore topics such as growing food, biodiversity, wildlife and sustainability, helping young people understand environmental challenges while developing practical skills and a sense of agency.

We also support schools to make their premises more environmentally friendly through technical growing advice, habitat creation and guidance on sustainable approaches.

We provide CPD sessions for teachers and those working with children, including bespoke training for all school staff at our sites. By sharing practical knowledge and experience, we help educators feel confident embedding outdoor learning and environmental themes into their work.

Over the years, we have built up a collection of activities and have worked with many other organisations in the borough, delivering one-off workshops, short-term projects and longer-term programmes focused on growing, food, environmental art and nature connection.

During school holidays, we run free environmental play activities across our sites, giving children of all ages and families opportunities to explore nature, be creative and develop a positive relationship with the environment.

HCGA deliver short courses for Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Adult Education Departments. These include herbal activities, introduction to gardening and a walks programme. We have also delivered cross-curricular activities such as a 6 week art and gardening course.
