Imperial College London Placements
HCGA has been hosting Imperial College London medical students since 2018 on a Community Group Placement (CGP) scheme as part of their BSc in Global Health. The students are learning about health in the community and the benefits of volunteering/being involved with a group.
Each year a group of students are scheduled to attend five placement visits within our projects. During these visits they attend and take part in our adult volunteer sessions along with the regular volunteers. This allows the students to work alongside and chat to volunteers, ask any questions and see how HCGA runs their projects. This is a great opportunity for future healthcare professionals to see first hand the health benefits of volunteering outside in nature and working within a group. After the 5 visits the group then has to come up with recommendations to HCGA. Recommendations have included things like improving accessibility, community merchandise and community nurse drop-ins.
