Healthy Community Fund
HCGA runs 2 programmes in Westminster that have been funded by the Healthy Community Fund for 3 years. Public Health funding has been given to local community organisations to run free community-led activities designed for diverse groups to enable them to live a healthier lifestyle.
WECH Gardening Club
The first one is a weekly gardening club in Watsons Garden within the grounds of WECH on the Harrow Road. A corner of Watsons Garden has recently been redesigned with more planters and a seating area. Residents are encouraged to pick herbs and any vegetables and fruits that are growing. The weekly group not only maintains the plants but it provides a space for residents and local people to socialise. With many people living alone this weekly dropping session allows people to stop and chat in a nature setting just off a busy road. There is also the opportunity for people to get their blood pressure checked with our blood pressure monitor and look through our sign-posting book of local services. Click here for more details.
Penfold Hub Garden
The second programme is Penfold Hub Garden. The Penfold Age Well Centre began in 2019 to give local residents without access to their own outdoor space the chance to take part in a community food‑growing project. The initiative was originally created by Notting Hill Genesis Housing Association and delivered by HCGA. In February 2023, Housing 21 took over management of the Penfold Age Well Centre from Notting Hill Genesis. Residents and local people now help care for the beautiful garden, growing a variety of flowers, fruit, vegetables, and herbs to share among the group. The gardening club is open to anyone aged 50 and over and meets every Thursday morning. Click here for more details.
