HCGA Install New Garden For Food Charity Nourish Hub
We’re delighted to have worked with local residents, food charity Nourish Hub and Hammersmith & Fulham Council to create a new community garden on the Edward Woods Estate.
Our Landscaping & Maintenance team installed two long planters designed to slow down rainwater, with hedge planting to create a noise and pollution buffer between the road and the Hub. Four new growing planters, with 3 trellis arches will allow volunteers at the Nourish Hub to grow vegetables (particularly root and climbing veg) and to develop their gardening club. There are two integrated benches which provide an opportunity to sit amongst the plants and flowers while enjoying the delicious food on offer at the Hub. Designed to bring people together through gardening, the space features planting shrubs that will support wildlife, improve biodiversity and create a greener environment for everyone to enjoy.
The new space, located outside Nourish Hub in St Ann’s Road, was officially opened by the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Sharon Holder, alongside local residents at a celebration on 22 July.
HCGA led the design and build of the garden and will be supporting local residents to develop the skills and confidence to care for it through a programme of free gardening workshops, including visits to Phoenix Farm. Over time, we hope the garden will become a thriving community space, cared for by the people who use it.
Joanna Lodge from UKHarvest, the charity that runs the Nourish Hub, said: We want to expand on the idea of healthy eating and looking after your wellbeing through food by learning more about gardening and nutrition.”
The project was made possible through funding from Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Green Investment programme and is another great example of what can be achieved when local organisations and communities work together to create healthier, greener neighbourhoods.
