10 Year Celebration of Gardening in Queens Park Gardens, W10

The Rose Garden was once an overlooked and underused area of the park. Many local residents have told us that it was dominated by overgrown shrubs and trees and anti-social behaviour which discouraged people from using the space.

Over the decade this area of Queens Park Gardens has been transformed into a vibrant, welcoming space that is enjoyed by residents of all ages.
This has been achieved by a weekly group of dedicated and hard working volunteers, numerous corporate volunteer groups and HCGA staff making the Rose Garden into a much loved area of the park.

Today, the garden is filled with colour throughout the seasons; creating a peaceful and attractive environment that draws people in and encourages them to stay. You now see families having picnics, people sitting on benches having their lunch or residents just sitting and enjoying the garden. Nursery groups regularly visit to explore nature and discover insects in a safe and biodiverse environment.

Over the years a number of local residents have attended the weekly volunteer gardening sessions where they have planted, weeded, pruned, watered and maintained the garden, ensuring it remains a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.  We have also had a quite a few corporate volunteers come to the garden to help out on bigger jobs, like creating a planted area on Ilbert Street and plant herbs outside St Jude’s Hall opposite Queens Park Gardens as well turning compost in the compost bins in the wildlife area.

All the volunteers’ efforts have not only improved the appearance of the garden but have also helped create a stronger sense of community and pride in Queens Park Gardens.

As we celebrate this 10-year achievement, we would like to thank every volunteer who has contributed their time, energy and enthusiasm to the Rose Garden.

HCGA looks forward to continuing this work and ensuring that future generations can enjoy this beautiful corner of Queens Park Gardens for many years to come.
