Who We Are

Hammersmith Community Gardens Association is managed by a group of trustees, who are all local residents. Our staff have knowledge and skills in a wide range of areas including: horticulture, conservation, garden design, forest schools, leading guided walks, herbal medicine and many more. We have a pool of sessional staff so are able to take on short-term projects and one-off sessions. All our staff are highly trained, DBS checked and insured.

Our aim is to manage the gardens to create pockets of green space that local people can enjoy. We are recognised as part of a network of organisations involved in greening west London.

An important element of our work is using the gardens as a focus for community development. Our aim is to bring people together and develop a greater sense of community pride. Our slogan is ‘Growing Plants, Growing People, Growing Communities’. It is our policy to follow the 3 ‘R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, use sustainable materials and organic or Fair Trade products.

We are now working in several other boroughs and so also use the working name Healthy Community Gardening Activities.

Our objectives are

  • Improving the environment of the borough as a place for people and wildlife by maintaining quality green spaces
  • Raising awareness of the links between the environment and the benefits of healthy living
  • Community Involvement:Encouraging people to be involved and caring in their local neighbourhood through one-off projects and long term developments. To seek to involve all sections of the community, not just the able bodied and the young
  • To work in partnership with other organisations

The association is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee.
