Gardening spans the generations as this picture taken on press day at Hampton Court Flower Show demonstrates. Students from Phoenix High School discussed the finer points of vegetable growing in their award winning market garden with respected horticultural journalist Peter Seabrook.
The students have been involved in every part of the process researching the initial ideas for the eighteenth century themed market garden, helping with construction, growing the plants used and planting the garden. They had to return to school before the judges had passed their verdict and Head of Sixth Form Jan Parnell said ‘ I can’t wait to see their faces when they learn that the garden won a gold and 2 silver gilt medals. I really hope that this will inspire them to go on to a career in the horticultural industry.’
Phoenix High School is located in the heart of Shepherds Bush and the project has also been supported by Hammersmith Community Gardens who manage the community volunteering programme on behalf of the school. The show garden has been sponsored by The Salt Yard Group, Mitie, Taylor Woodrow and Quadron.
